At EarthCare Landscaping we are dedicated to promoting and practicing the principles of sustainable/ecological landscaping in the Bay area.
A "Laundry to Landscape" system (perhaps the biggest positive change in CA greywater usage) diverts clothes-washing machine water from going to the sewer and uses it instead in the landscape. Given that even the most efficient, newer washing machines use about 15 to 20 gallons of water per load, at an average of 7 loads per week, this can add up to over 5000 gallons of water savings over the course of a year. Older model machines can use from 35 to 55 gallons per wash cycle.
For our landscape design and landscape installation customers, we can often install a simple, basic but complete, laundry to landscape system for $1000 - $1500. Given our current project load, we regret we are not able to provide these services as a stand-alone project for new customers.
If you are interested in doing even more for water conservation, and are in a new home or rebuild/remodel construction project, we work with watersprouts.org as part of the landscape design and installation phases.
Using a whole-house grey water system, you can connect all applicable fixtures, e.g., bathroom sinks, tubs & showers, laundry room sink and the clothes washing machine. These systems usually require permits, and typically see costs in the $10-15,000 range; your project is unique to the size and configuration of your home and landscape. Better estimates can be provided when specifications are developed.
